Beach Huts

Teacher comment: “Welcome to the Summer Term. I hope your Easter was enjoyable and peaceful and that the children have had a good break. The first half of  this half term will be busy as we get ready and take SATs. However, we have our residential trip to look forward to after SATs! We will be visiting African Adventure at Sizewell between 17th and 19th May 2017.

Our topic this term is ‘Rumble in the Jungle’.

Before SATs, there will be an emphasis SPaG skills. The children will gain a lot from looking at and practising SPaG papers. We will spend this term honing writing skills, with an emphasis on being able to use a wide range of sentence structures, punctuation and language devices. Linking to our topic, we will use the film Madagascar to inspire our writing with a Cineliteracy unit. The unit will culminate with a Persuasive text about saving the Rainforest. B As a stand alone post SATs topic, the children will be introduced to Graphic Novels, specifically Frankenstein. They will enjoy exploring this graphic novel through drama, role play, and extended writing.

Prior to SATs, the children will be consolidating and practising the skills that they will need for SATs. There will be an emphasis on reasoning and problem solving skills. The children will be working on speed, fluency and accuracy. After SATs, the children will concentrate on real life investigatory Maths and will use these skills during Enterprise week.

With a Geography and Science focus, with our topic, we will be looking at the Rainforest. We will be locating the Rainforest and identifying the layers of vegetation of the rainforest. We will examine indigenous tribes, and the threats of the rainforest. In Science the focus will be living things and their habitats. The children will look at the science of classification - with a particular emphasis on rainforest food chains.

Children who read with an adult 5 times are eligible for entry into the ‘reading challenge’ and have a chance to win a book.

WOW assemblies are each and every Friday at 2:30p.m.

We invite all Parents/Carers to our WOW assembly. Each week at least one child per class receives the WOW award for something brilliant they have done that week!

Just a reminder that Year 6 will have Key Stage 2 SATs the first half of this term. There is an expectation that all children put in 100% effort into the practising and taking of their SATs test - the teachers and support staff are there to help. It is important that children attend school everyday. I will be holding a SATs preparation club every Tuesday and Friday after school. Attendance during SATs week is compulsory.
