Governors

Our Board of Governors

School governors are an important part of any school and there are over 300,000 school governors in England and they are the largest volunteer force in the country.

Each governor is a member of a governing body, which is established in law as a corporate body. Individual governors may not act independently of the rest of the governing body. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- Set the aims and objectives for the school
- Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- Be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher

The Headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body.

This is my first year as a school governor.  I am excited to be involved with ensuring the pupils and teaching staff at Langer Academy have a positive experience during their time here.  A child's school years have a huge influence in a children's life and ensuring the quality of teaching and support the pupils receive is paramount in ensuring this is a positive time, one they can reflect and learn on as they grow.

I have lived in Suffolk for 8 years having moved here from Germany where we were based with the Armed Forces.  Myself and my husband have 3 grown up children who have had experience of a number of schools with moving around, however they have turned this into a positive experience by embracing new friends and schools giving them the confidence they have now as adults.

I am from a business & people management background with my current position being a Training Business Support Manager for the East of England Ambulance Service.  I bring a passion for teaching and ensuring quality, student experience and ensuring Langer Academy provides the best education and experience to all pupils.

I have been involved with Langer School since 1998 and during this time I have taught across the age range from reception to year 6. I left in April 2013 to explore other opportunities but was keen to maintain links with the school and so applied to become an AET community governor. I now work part time at another local primary school as well as back at Langer covering teacher release time.

On the Governing body I am currently chair of the Behaviour Achievement Safety and Standards committee as well as the governor for SEND and pupil premium.

My aim is to ensure that Langer Primary Aacademy continues to move forward in its journey and provide the children with excellent opportunities to achieve their potential.

I have been a parent at Langer Primary Academy since 2012 when my family moved here from Portsmouth. I have seen firsthand how hard everyone at the school has worked to raise the school standards. My aim is to make sure that the parent's views and concerns are voiced. Together we will ensure that the pupil's leave school as well-rounded, self confident and happy individuals.

In 1992 I moved from Yorkshire to Suffolk to study design, I have family who married and lived in Felixstowe, and relations in Kent, so it was a move that I had family connections with.

As a practicing self-employed professional artist, I have been making and exhibiting work, since graduating in 2012 from University of Suffolk with a 2:1 in BA (Hons) Fine Art Ipswich Campus. In my educational experience I have knowledge of Design (Fashion, Theatre, Exhibition, Television, Graphics, Textiles) also I have experience of Architecture after studying it in 1998, and was mentored by a design architect from Lord Richard Rogers of Riverside’s architectural practice in 1995. In particular my interests in the arts is a general enjoyment of dance, drama, visual arts, and I have experience in presentation skills. As part of my professional role and responsibility as a practicing artist, I regularly gives talks and advice about the arts, through Inspiring The Futures, to children from primary to sixth form to highlight careers and vocational opportunities in the creative industries. Often I am invited for interview at BBC Radio Suffolk for my expertise in art and opinion.
