Seahorses - Year 5

Welcome to Seahorses Class

Teacher comment: こんにちは! I hope everyone has had a good Easter and is raring to go for an exciting term ahead. We will be moving onto our ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ topic where the children will be developing their understanding of rainforests and their importance in the world.

For our literacy this Summer term, we will developing our own poems based on a journey through a rainforest - exploring and putting into poetic terms their sensory experiences. After that, we will be using the film ‘Madagascar’ as a basis for understanding cineliteracy before learning to utilise their powers of persuasion to write appealing and logical reasons to save the rainforests.

For the summer term, we will be covering the following units: Investigating Statistics, Visualising Shape, Exploring Change and Describing Position. In accordance with our whole school mathematics approach, we will be covering these units by following the ‘Master Flow’ model of study where work is first represented concretely before moving onto fluency, reasoning and then mastery.

Our topic for this summer term is ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ - an in-depth Geographical and Scientific look at the sophisticated ecosystems of rainforests around the world and how they compare to local ecosystems. We will also be spending time analysing the impact of human activity upon the environment.

We will be looking at the developing stop motion animation and dioramas in relation to artistic depictions of and stories about the rainforest.
