Seahorses - Year 5

Welcome to Seahorses Class

Seahorses

Teacher comment: 你好! I hope everyone has had a good Summer break and is raring to go for an exciting term ahead. We will be starting our ‘Space: the Final Frontier’ topic and will be looking at the current understanding of the Solar System and our place in the universe.

Literacy

For our literacy this Autumn term, we will be looking at Rondeau poems and adapting and inventing some of our own. After that, we will be creating a short science-fiction story based upon our space topic. We will also be looking at writing explanation texts about the history of space travel.

Maths

In maths, we will be covering  the following units: Investigating Number Systems, Pattern Sniffing, Solving Calculation Problems and Generalising Arithmetic. In accordance with our whole school mathematics approach, we will be covering these units by following the ‘Master Flow’ model of study where work is first represented concretely before moving onto fluency, reasoning and then mastery.

Topic

Our topic for this summer term is ‘Space - the Final Frontier’ - an in-depth scientific and historical look at the how we have come to our current model of the universe through centuries of scientific inquiry.

We identify and recognise the planets that make up our solar system and develop our scientific method by gathering, assessing and evaluating evidence.
