Seals - Year 4

Welcome to Seals Class

Teacher comment: ‘ This is really a special part of the year - the days are longer and warmer and children, parent and teachers can come and leave school in the warmth. With this in mind, our topic we have decided to undertake this term is perfectly related to this time of year. Our topic is called ‘Today’s News, Tomorrow’s chip paper’ which will enable us to explore our great town of Felixstowe, look at our local community and find out the geography and history of this town. Any local experts out there with knowledge of Felixstowe? We may ask you to come and talk to us!

With our new local knowledge of Felixstowe, we shall be using these skills to create factual writing and information texts which reflect our topic work. We will also be writing our own fairy tales, but with a new and surprising twist to them. Accompanying these different writing styles, we shall be continuing to learn all those important grammatical skills.

As soon as we return from holiday, we will be undertaking some learning on statistics, data and graphs. We shall be collecting data, information and using it to interpret create graphs and then interpret data. This will involve using all the number skills that we have picked up over the last two terms. We will also be exploring shape, 2D and 3D and different different aspects of geometry. Naturally, I expect all children to keep learning their essential times tables.

Our topic this term is Today’s news, tomorrow’s chip paper. It includes local history, geography of our local area and science with the formation of rocks - we are so lucky to have the beach a sa great natural resource. As the topic is local it will mean we can use the local area to enhance our learning.
