Seals - Year 4

Welcome to Seals Class

Teacher comment: Let me first welcome your children and yourselves to Seals Class. I hope they enjoyed the summer break. I will be working in Seals Class from Monday to Thursday and Mr Devitt will take the class on Friday. I always try my best to make my class an engaging and fun class to be in and this in turn should make learning fun and your child more productive.

If there are any issues regarding your child’s education, happiness or anything related to their time at school, please feel free to come and see me.

Much of our learning in Literacy will be linked to our topics of Ancient Egypt but of course we will be focussing on the basis of written English - the foundation to good writing. This half term we shall be working on non-fictional writing based on the Egyptians and after half term we will shift our focus on more fictional writing. I hope that our topic will lead to some interesting and special pieces of writing.

As the children are new to my class I feel it highly appropriate to start at the beginning. Our first two topics in maths will concentrate on place value, investigating number patterns as well as the fundamentals of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - the cornerstone to all mathematical understanding. I always stress to children in any class in which I teach the importance of learning times tables. You will see your son / daughter return with some times table sheets to learn - I would really appreciate your support.

Our topic this term is, as already stated, The Ancient Egyptians. There is surely a lot to learn from pyramids to mummies to the magnificent River Nile as well as Ancient Egyptian rules and society. We will naturally have to look at the context of where Egypt is and our place in the world in comparison. Our art work will be linked to the topic and I can foresee some creative work coming your way!

Homework - Handed out on a Friday, due in on the following Tuesday.

Spellings - Handed out on a Friday, tested on the following  Friday.

P.E. sessions this term will be predominantly taken as swimming lessons. We will also having P.E. lessons in school so please ensure your child has a full P.E. kit including trainers and plimsolls.
P.E. kits will be sent home at the end of every half term to be washed.

Please ensure children with long hair have their hair tied up. Please ensure earrings are taken out.
