PE and Sport Funding

Allocation of School's P.E./Sport Grant 2013-2016

The Government are spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools and as such additional funding has been provided to Langer Primary Academy.

Schools can choose how they use this funding but some examples include: - Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons - Support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs - Provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers -Run sports competitions or increase pupils' participation in the School Games - Run sports activities with other schools.

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils (those in Reception to Year 6) receive £8,000 (2013/14) plus £5 for each eligible pupil.

Langer Primary Academy will receive total funding of £8,670

Analysis of P.E sport provision at Langer Primary Academy - 2013/4 - April 2013: only one PE/Sport related club offered to children (tennis), in addition to their 2 hours weekly PE. This had low take up and was paid for by the parents. - Summer term 2013: introduced more clubs, including PE/Sport (football, basketball/netball, dance and Gym) where parents funded their child’s place. Oral feedback was that uptake would be increased if clubs were not so expensive. - A sports coach comes in once a week to cover PPA time and Breakfast club multi-sports - Package also offered from local Secondary Academy for all local primary schools to invest in a sports programme delivered by them to include competitions and training. (See paperwork relating to this)
